Many organizations seeking to execute a digital transformation fixate on and pursue short-term metrics without due consideration for longer-term effects. They measure the wrong things and that causes them to prioritize the wrong things. Transformation is a long-term activity; organizations who wish to succeed need to be willing to take a short-term hit in service of the longer-term aim. The companies that will survive and thrive recognize that this is a part of the process and keep their eye on the longer-term play. This may run counter to the present drive to maximize short-term shareholder value.
